How to Support the Writing You Love on Medium
New rollouts to the Partner Program make it easier to boost the content you love
I joined Medium in early 2020 and became a member of the Partner program in late November. Even then, I worried that I had come to this platform too late. Every third article was about how to make more money on Medium. Fast forward three years, and now only 1 in 3 articles is about something other than making money on Medium.
For a long time now, I’ve felt powerless to row against this current. But a recent blog post from Medium’s Product Manager signals some important new changes coming to the platform that may add a few oars to help writers and readers like me to see and produce better content on this platform.
Below, I break down what the new rules are, how they’ll help creators boost their visibility and earnings, and how readers can better support the writing they love on Medium.
On Tuesday, Buster Benson published a blog post outlining several changes to Medium’s Partner Program that are set to roll out on August 1st. He writes:
“The rest of the Internet is filled with cheap, attention-grabbing content. We are most proud Medium can deliver our members something different. One of the keys to doing that is how we incentivize and reward the authors here.”
In a lengthy post, Buster sets out several changes, including the addition of several new countries, including India and Brazil, added boost bonuses, and an end to the referral bonus program.
Buster writes:
“Over the last few years, our members have told us in no uncertain terms that they are tired of clickbait and content mills, want ‘get rich quick’ siloed into a constrained area, don’t want stories that are generated by AI, and, in particular, want to read human stories that deliver actual human wisdom.”
